BOBB'E Says! - Spotlight on Bobb'e J. Thompson

You could say that Christmas is coming a little early for young Bobb'e J. Thompson.

Bobb'e Thompson - Merry Christmas Jake & Josh' Premier

If you're not hip to Bobb'e J. Thompson, (Check out that spelling) here's some background information:

Bobb'e has had an impressive career in front of the camera since the young age of five. Bobb'e rose to fame as a child actor well before his teens, initially with a small but colorful and energetic supporting role as Tupac in My Baby's Daddy (2003). He subsequently appeared in television and film productions such as "The Tracy Morgan Show" (2004), Shark Tale (2004), "That's So Raven" (2004), and "Joey" (2005).

He joined up with Vince Vaughn in the holiday comedy Fred Claus (2007) and then starred in the hit comedy Role Models as the hilarious, wisecracking Ronnie Shields, for which he was nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance - Male at the 2009 MTV Movie Awards.

Furthermore, 2009 is proving to be a break out year for Thompson. He appeared in Land of the Lost with Will Ferrell and the family comedy Imagine That, in which he plays a junior extortionist that hazes Eddie Murphy. Thompson is also a semi-regular on NBC's "30 Rock," in his role as Tracy Jr., the son of Tracy Morgan's character.

And who doesn't want to be a Nike star???

Nike recruited Thompson for multiple commercials as Lil Dez, who gives NBA greats Kobe Bryant and LeBron James a run for their money while babysitting. Up next for Thompson is Snowmen with Ray Liotta and his current hosting gig on the Cartoon Network show Bobb'e Says.

Here are a few YouTube clips from Bobb'e Says:

Okay Bobb'e, that's some pretty solid advice and your show is generating lots of buzz. So at 13 years of age with all of this wisdom and criticism of these "geniuses", will you be heeding your own advice? Keep in mind the media is very unforgiving when Pop Stars make mistakes. Don't turn into someone who says "Do as I say and not as I do." And please don't turn into one of these guys:

BOBB'E Intrepid says - Bobb'e, you're a young man with a promising future; Don't do drugs, excessive alcohol, crime, and other silly things and end up with your face on a mugshot.
Enough Said!

The Tonight Show says farewell to Jay Leno!

In the late 1980's I took a trip to Las Vegas. While I was there I had the chance to enjoy the city and take in some shows. One of the highlights for me was attending Jay Leno's performance at Caesar's Palace. He was just a young and upcoming comedian at the time but clearly quite talented. I had a dinner date one evening which we followed up with the show. We walked in dressed nicely - and must have been mistaken for people of importance - because the ushers led us down to the very front row. That's when I learned that you never want to be up front and in view when a comedian is performing. As you can guess, we were the focus of most of his jokes for the night. I must say though, I thought they were in very good taste and were quite amusing. I developed an appreciation for this performer who I previously knew very little about.

Who would have thought that years later I'd be living in the same town as Jay and would see him quite frequently driving down the street in any one of his many classic automobiles.

It's common knowledge that Jay is a car nut. Many weekends he can be seen driving through Burbank or the Hollywood Hills in one of his vintage machines. People wave and he gladly waves back.. Sometimes he has to put his stogie away to wave but he waves all the same. He's also been know to frequent a Friday night gathering at the Bob's Big Boy in Burbank where many other local car aficionados hang out.

Who would have thought that after 17 years, Jay Leno would be moving on. It just seemed like he would continue indefinitely. Johnny Carson cranked out 30 years so I figured Jay had at least another 10 good years to go. But the reality is- Jay Leno has said good night to the Tonight Show.

Here are some Highlights from his monologue:

"Welcome to the exciting season finale of The Tonight Show," said Jay. "I have to thank some people who made the show a success - Michael Jackson, Monica Lewinsky and Bill Clinton. ... When I started this show, my hair was black and the president was white. ... When we started the show, Jon and Kate were both 8. ... I'm cleaning out my office today and I find O.J's knife. I had it the whole time! ... People say what are you going to do? Relax? I'm going to be in a secluded spot where no one can find me - NBC primetime!"

Jay was know for his "Jaywalking" interviews. It was fitting that they did a recap of a few on his final show.

Please enjoy!

And finally, a few bloopers from the years past!

So long Jay, see you in primetime!

Sad But True.....

When will the writer's strike be over? Is there a possible end in site? I've purposefully avoided blogging about the writer's strike but I certainly can't avoid the reality of the issue. It seems every day now since I've been back in LA I have some immediate reminder of the truth. And the truth is: Many lives will be affected economically, emotionally, and permanently. This is clear to me as I watch the masses walk the picket lines rain or shine. I suppose in my own little Utopian mind I long for a society and job market where management would treat labor with dignity and respect and compensate them fairly for work done. In return, labor would respond with loyalty, dedication, commitment to duty, and provide a fair days work for fair pay. Having been a past victim of management's ruthless and "criminal" pillaging of my pay, benefits, and retirement; I've unfortunately resigned myself to the belief that in some cases unions are necessary. I came across this video in the chambers of "Youtubia" and noticed the widespread irony in it. Please watch:

There's lots of irony here but I've highlighted the following:

  1. This guy tries to show how clever "he is" by making fun of comedy writers.
  2. He is a comedy writer and really isn't funny at all.
  3. The stress and pressure of this strike will end many relationships.
  4. Not all comedy writers are men.
  5. This guy is a boob and annoys his wife and it has nothing to do with the strike. Their relationship survives merely because she gets a scheduled break from him.

You would think that with all of his time off he could really come up with something funny! Not!

Well, let's hope for a quick and fair settlement. I hear from my sources that there's a producer's settlement proposal on the table.

Expect to hear more in the upcoming days.
