Music Monday - Same Old Lang Syne
As the year comes to a close, I can't think of a better selection to close out 2008 than "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg. It's been a full year since Dan passed away following complications from advanced prostate cancer on December 16, 2007. I contemplated doing a post about Dan last year but decided not to. I wasn't a major fan of Dan Fogelberg. Not that his music wasn't good - I just didn't get it back then. I did, however, always like this particular song. It tells quite a story and blends the music nicely with the ballad. In fact, I think the combination of the vocals, the music, and the lyrics, makes you listen to the words and follow the tale.
Here's a Youtube clip with some added Holiday and Seasonal flavor.
I hope you enjoy it!

That's a lovely song; Christmas and New Year can bring back many poignant memories.
(I'm also seriously impressed by any songwriter that can make the frozen food counter sound romantic. Just as well she didn't spill a packet of frozen peas though or they could have been there a long time!)
Ohhhh! I love this song! When I first heard it -way back when- it tugged at my innocent teen-age heart, but I had no real understanding of "love lost". So different to listen to it now, with the added texture of a couple more decades...

Watch out for that "GOOD GIRL" ... a spammer! (and a dangerous link at the profile page)
Intrepid, I was never a big Fogleburg fan either, but this song sounded so much "better" today than I had remembered.
I think the old cat has mellowed in his years on this planet!!
Tip O the Hat to you, great pick for M.M.
Nice choice :) Btw, happy 2009!!!!!!

Speedy, Thanks for the "heads up" on Goooood Girl. I'll delete her (his) comment. Yeah, I'm getting a bit mellow as well. Top of the New Year to You!
Rozella, Thanks! Happy 2009 to you!
Miss Jane - Leave it to you to throw in some levity. Those frozen peas would make it difficult.
Footsteps - I'm with you. What a difference a few decades can make - huh?
